The Georgian script was developed in the 5th century A.D. from the Greek alphabet. This script is known as Khutsuri (sometimes Asomtavruli style) and is still in use for ecclesiastical purposes. A more cursive form of this script, known as Mkhedruli, evolved from the 9th to 13th centuries and is the primary form used today.
